The Hawiyah NGL Recovery Plant, designed to process 4 billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of sweet gas from the Hawiyah and Haradh gas plants to yield 310,000 barrels per day of ethane and NGL, started up in 2008.

A set of associated projects included the following: expansion of the Hawiyah Gas Plant to process an additional 800 million scfd of non-associated gas, raising the plant’s capacity to 2.4 billion scfd; expansion of the Ju'aymah Gas Plant to increase NGL fractionation capacity; and an expansion of the Yanbu' Gas Plant to increase its NGL fractionation capacity from 390,000 bpd to 585,000 bpd to meet increasing demand for ethane as a petrochemical feedstock, specifically at the Yanbu' and Rabigh petrochemical complexes.
