The 'Uthmaniyah Gas Plant was brought on stream in 1981. It was designed to process associated gas at the rate of 1.5 billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd).

Feed gas is supplied to the 'Uthmaniyah plant through gathering lines from 15 gas-oil separation plants (GOSPs) in the 'Uthmaniyah, Ain Dar and Harmaliyah areas of the Ghawar field.

NGL produced at 'Uthmaniyah is pumped to Shedgum for distribution to Ju'aymah or Yanbu'. At these plants, the NGL is fractionated and sold to world markets. The ethane becomes feedstock for petrochemical plants at Jubail and Yanbu'.

In 2011, we upgraded 10 sulfur recovery units at 'Uthmaniyah and Shedgum to increase sulfur recovery from 95 percent to 98.7 percent and to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions.
