In addition to our hydrocarbon facilities, we also operate the world’s largest seawater treatment plant and are an equity partner in a major utility.

These facilities are essential for maintaining our legacy of reliability.

Qurayyah Seawater Treatment Plant

Water produced in conjunction with crude oil is re-injected back in the reservoir. In addition, an extensive injection system utilizing treated seawater is used to help maintain reservoir pressure. Saudi Aramco's main seawater treating facility, Qurayyah, can process more than 13 million barrels per day for injection into the giant Ghawar and Khurais oil fields.

Marafiq (Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu')

Formed as a joint-stock company by Royal Decree in October 2000, Marafiq is a power and water company that provides all utility services for industrial and residential areas in Jubail and Yanbu', including:

  • Generating and distributing electricity
  • Producing and distributing potable and process water
  • Supplying seawater to industry
  • Treating industrial wastewater

Marafiq’s four major shareholders, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu' (RC), Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), Saudi Aramco and the Public Investment Fund (PIF), hold equal shares in the company.  Marafiq is headquartered in Jubail Industrial City on the Arabian Gulf.
