Stewards of our resources

Saudi Arabia has the world’s largest conventional oil reserves. The supply of recoverable crude oil and condensate is measured at approximately 259.7 billion barrels.

The Kingdom’s natural gas reserves are the world’s fourth biggest, estimated at 282.6 trillion cubic feet.

Given their immense size, managing these reserves wisely benefits not just the Kingdom, but the whole world. That’s why we’re continually investing in exploration and better reservoir management.

Growing and discovering

In recent years, we’ve focused on increasing our natural gas production capability. Why? Gas plays an essential role in the Saudi economy and fuels many local industries.

By 2014, we plan to expand gas production and processing capacities by 40% to 4.5 billion standard cubic feet.

Exploration

We’re busy locating oil and gas resources across Saudi Arabia, exploring new frontiers on land and offshore.

Production

We’ve just completed a multi-project program to meet our 12 million barrels per day (bpd) maximum sustainable crude oil production capacity goal. This means we can maintain significant spare production capacity to reserve for unforeseen supply disruptions elsewhere in the industry.

To meet our goals and continue to grow, we invest in large-scale projects even when the current market is weak.

Creating technology that works

We’ve introduced many new reservoir management techniques designed to maximize recovery from our fields. 

One of these is GigaPOWERS, a parallel reservoir simulator we pioneered that allows us to view giant fields at billion-cell seismic resolution. This industry first creates a detailed visual picture of fluid movement in hydrocarbon reservoirs.

We also manage an extensive system of crude oil producing and processing facilities and export terminals, helping us meet our customer commitments. It’s all part of our goal to remain the world’s most reliable supplier of petroleum for many decades to come.
