Gas Operations Overview
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is endowed with two major fossil fuel sources, crude oil and natural gas. Worldwide, gas is the fastest growing energy source. During the 1990s, world gas consumption grew 1.7% per year and consumption is expected to accelerate at a rate of 2.4% per year over the next 20 years. The worldwide demand for gas is driven by the power and industrial sectors due to its smaller environmental footprint as an energy source. Reserves of natural gas in company-managed fields total 275.2 trillion cubic feet. In 2009, Saudi Aramco completed a multi-year, multiple mega-project program that included significant increases to gas production and processing capacities.
